About Us
Since 1991, the Catholic Biblical Studies Program has been serving the greater Buffalo area as a source of knowledge of the Sacred Scriptures.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Catholic Biblical Studies Program is to promote an understanding of the importance of the Bible to the life of God's people and to engage students in a critical, reflective and prayerful study of the word of God that will contribute toward a living and productive faith.
Essential to that mission is an unfolding awareness that impresses itself deeply in the mind and heart of each student:
That the word of God is powerful! It is a creative
word, accomplishing what it promises. "So shall
my word be…It shall not return to me void, but
shall do my will, achieving the end for which I
sent it." (Isaiah 55:11)
That the word of God is truly an encounter with
the living God. "…the Gospel…is the power of
God leading everyone who believes in it to
salvation…" (Romans 1:16)
That the encounter with the Word of God through
the word of God possesses a life-giving potential
to renew us. "Your rebirth has come, not from a
destructible, but from an indestructible seed,
through the living and enduring word of God."
(1 Peter 1:23)
That studying the Scriptures in their entirety gives
insight into the plan and purpose of God, revealed
throughout human history and brought to fullness
in Christ. This engagement effects personal
growth and understanding that is the fruit of
study and openness to God through God's saving
word. "Indeed God's word is living and effective,
sharper than any two edged sword. It penetrates
and divides soul and spirit, joints and marrow.
It judges the reflections and thoughts of the
heart." (Hebrews 4:12)
