Four Year Curriculum for the Catholic Biblical Studies Program

The CBSP conducts a structured study of the Old and New Testaments over the course of four years.  Each book is studied in its relationship with other books in the Bible and with various theological themes.

Year One  Year Two   Year Three   Year Four

Year One:  Old Testament Foundations - Genesis Through Kings

Unit 1   We begin with the Book of Exodus, exploring the theological theme of the People of God.  The study moves on to Leviticus and Numbers, which are concerned with the general issue of sources of the Pentateuch and the major themes of covenant, law and desert.

Unit 2  The 2nd unit continues the study of the Pentateuch, including the books of  Deuteronomy and Genesis.  General issues discussed are form criticism and the Fertile Crescent.  Creation, sin, promise, and the land are the theological themes that are concentrated on.

Unit 3  Books studied in unit three include Joshua, Judges, 1 and 2 Samuel, and 1 and 2 Kings.  The general issues of importance are the geography of Palestine, Canaanite religion, biblical chronology and biblical archeology.  Charismatic leadership, kingship and prophecy are theological themes important to this study.
