What is the purpose of the Catholic Biblical Studies Program?

Why should I study the Bible?

"Learn to know the heart of God in the Word of God" (St.Gregory the Great). The word of God is God's primary mode of communicating his great love, mercy and faithfulness. By pursuing this study we become familiar with the ways of God in our life. Back to Top

What is different about the Catholic Biblical Studies Program?

What distinguishes the CBS is that students are taught to see how each book of the Bible contributes something unique to our understanding of God's word and its meaning in our life. This a study program rather than Bible reflection. This suggests that we will learn and grow in our knowledge. It is not a simple sharing of ideas. Some commitment is made by the student.

Who participates in the Catholic Biblical Studies Program?

The CBS program is open to adults of all ages with a curiosity to learn more about God's living word. Anyone interested in studying the Bible from an historical-critical perspective will benefit from what CBS has to offer. Many students are engaged in Church ministry (religious education, RCIA, lectors, etc). Others are simply doing something they have always wanted to do. Back to Top

How long is this course?

There are three ten-week sessions per year with classes that meet for two hours once a week. Over the course of 4 years, the Bible is read and studied in its entirety. Back to Top

What is the cost?

There is an initial $55 registration fee that includes 3 texts (See book oder page for specifics). Tuition is charged for each ten-week session at the current rate of $13 per class.

Tuition assistance may be available through the Carroll Stuhlmueller Scholarship Fund, which is supported by students and graduates. Back to Top

Do I receive credit for taking this course?

The CBS is a certificate-granting program for those completing the requirements of the four-year course of study. Back to Top
