Four Year Curriculum for the Catholic Biblical Studies Program

The CBSP conducts a structured study of the Old and New Testaments over the course of four years.  Each book is studied in its relationship with other books in the Bible and with various theological themes.

Year Three:  Old Testament Continued-Exile and Restoration

Unit 1  The first unit of this year is a study of the prophets Amos, Hosea, I Isaiah, Micah, Zephaniah, Nahum, and Jeremiah.  Biblical chronology is discussed.  Theological themes include prophetic vocation, social justice, and marriage of God and Israel.


Unit 2  This unit begins with the book of Lamentations, and then continues the study of the prophets with Obadiah, Ezekiel, II Isaiah, Haggai, Zechariah 1-8,
III Isaiah, Ezra and Nehemiah.  Themes discussed are the destruction of the Temple, Exile, Renewal after the Exile, and community rebuilt around the
Word.


Unit 3  Chronicles begins Unit 3, followed by a study of Joel, Malachi, Ruth, Song of Songs, and ends with the Psalms.  There will be a discussion of history writing in the OT, Hebrew poetry, and Jewish liturgy.
