Four Year Curriculum for the Catholic Biblical Studies Program
The CBSP conducts a structured study of the Old and New Testaments over the course of four years. Each book is studied in its relationship with other books in the Bible and with various theological themes.
Year Two: New Testament Foundations - Jesus and Discipleship
Unit 1 This unit covers the Gospels of Mark and Luke and concentrates on the Infancy narratives. Students encounter the synoptic question, form criticism, and redaction criticism. The theological themes discussed are discipleship and the Holy Spirit.
Unit 2 Unit two is a survey of the book of Acts and the Pauline Letters. We discuss New Testament geography and the letter as a literary form. Theological themes are Church and gifts of the Spirit.
Unit 3 The Gospel of John, apocalyptic passages from
the Gospels and Revelation are the focus of this unit.
The central issue is Apocalyptic writing. Themes
discussed are sacraments and eschatology.
